Dr. Derek is a graduate of the prestigious Boston University School of Dental Medicine. He continued his education with a two year intensive residency in pediatric dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and was on staff at major hospitals in Boston, MA. Passionate about pediatric dentistry, Dr. Derek frequently digests research articles and continuing education courses to provide the best care for his patients. In addition to private practice, he dedicates his time as a faculty member at Tufts by providing expertises and guidance to future dentists. He has been awarded Top Dentist by Boston Magazine for excellence in pediatric dentistry in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021.
Along with his multiple accolades, Dr. Derek has been extensively recognized for his services and contributions to civic duty by receiving the Humanitarian Award from the International College of Dentists and receiving honors in civic commitment and community service.
Dr. Derek is an avid runner and is hoping to challenge his tenth marathon in 2021. He is excited to be part of the San Marcos team. He also loves pizza and donuts.

PEDIATRIC DENTIST
Dr. Maria Jose Cervantes or “DR C” earned her dental degree at the Intercontinental University at Mexico City (UIC). After working as a general practitioner, she completed her pediatric dental residency at UT Health San Antonio and earned a master’s degree in orthodontics at UIC.
Currently, she serves as the Postdoctoral Program Director in Pediatric Dentistry. As a full-time faculty, she provides didactic and clinical teaching for both pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students. Her research interests include human growth and development, cleft lip and palate, restorative materials, and caries prevention.

Dr. Mullarney grew up in New Jersey and currently resides in Austin, TX. He enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and climbing. His passion for travel has led him to explore new places around the world, immersing himself in local cultures and foods. When not traveling, he loves spending time with friends, family, and his awesome cat Jupiter.
